peru/boliva

alright

Quite a long time since i last wrote what ive been doing and hav covered so much time since then.. Started out in arequipa which was one of the most impressive cities ive been to in peru, but the main reason we went there was to treck in the colca canyon. We spent three days there in some of the most impressive scenery i have ever seen, one night in the bottom of the canyon close to an oasis and then the second night at the top. one of the main highlights though was the condors flying two metres away from your face. After the canyon we moved onto Cusco which is the main gringo town in the whole of peru. had two blinding nights out there, with 4 hours sleep there over two days.. we booked our self onto the salconty trail which is the main alternative to the popular inca trail. the trail itself was excellent but the food was lacking and we were stuck with a group of fat lazy french and design technology teachers who moved at about 1/2 a mile an hour, that could onbly be achieved with the use of their two walking poles.. the culmination of the trip was manchu pichu which didnt disapoint at all. we arrived at 6 in the morning to watch the sun rise and to make sure we could climb the mountain behind the site called wannu pichu which only 400 people could climb a day and provided amazing views over the site. we then spent one more night in cusco before moving to lake titicaca and the bolivian border.

we only saw the lake from the bolivian side as we were pushed for time, so we spent on morning there sailing out the the island of the sun before moving onto la paz. La Paz was a pretty cool place and had a good saturday night out there but the absolute highlight was cycling the worlds most dangerous road, one of the best days ive had in south america, pictures probably best describe this day...

we then made a massive bline to the salt flats in the south of boliva and have just returned from a three day jeep tour. the scenery was amazing and we were with a quality group of kiwis. catching the train tonight to the argentine border before flying to rio on monday. Short but sweet, back in 7 days so can tell you more about it then. will put some pictures. Rob x
